NOS Certified School Community Case Study – Christ’s College
Christ’s College is a large Christian faith Secondary and sixth form school located in Guildford, Surrey and is part of the Good Shepherd Trust. Since joining National Online Safety’s Certified School Community membership in January 2019, the school has become newly “well versed” in keeping their pupils safe from online risks.
As a Secondary with a small sixth form, the school faced a range of online safety challenges and needed to know how to have age-appropriate discussions with pupils about everything from online gaming and messaging apps to sexting and gambling. They needed an online training solution which would be convenient for the staff easy to access. When they came across National Online Safety’s Certified School Community package of courses and resources in late 2018, they found the full service they required.
“I often find online slideshows boring, but this was in-depth and really engaging”
– Zed Annan, e-Safety Lead
The staff and governors valued the flexibility to log in with their unique details and compete as much training as they had time for at any one time and pickup exactly where they left off during their next session. Teachers commented on the “clear and concise” interactive training modules which count towards annual CPD. Parents have remarked that they feel encouraged that the school has taken such a proactive approach to online safety, and some said they have been shocked by some facts they have learned via the courses and guides.
The Christ’s College team completed all requirements to achieve Certified School Community status in little over one month, which not only reveals their clear commitment to tackling online safety and making demonstrable improvements but also how scalable and achievable the programme is. Along the way, the staff commented on the excellent quality and care of NOS customer service when they needed guidance with creating accounts or accessing materials.
