About The Course

Certificate in Food Allergy Awareness and Anaphylaxis (21-22)

About the Course

Duration: 17 mins (approx)

As per section 100 of the Children and Families Act 2014, schools have a legal obligation to support their pupils with any medical conditions, including food allergies. Schools must comply with certain statutory guidance, such as providing students with allergen ingredients’ information for the food they serve (Food Information Regulations 2014) to fulfil their legal responsibilities. Failure to comply with relevant training or with statutory guidance could have severe consequences.

Our Essential CPD Course in food allergies provides you and your staff with the core content you need to ensure you are protecting your students from food-related allergic reactions. Delivered in high-quality video CPD format that has been skilfully organised for busy workloads and is accessible on any device, anytime, anywhere, our food allergy awareness training has been designed to provide maximum learning potential in the leanest, most cost-effective and most time-efficient manner.

Delivered by qualified Emergency Ambulance Medic, Samantha Kendall, this course has been divided into four easy-to-digest modules and contains links to further learning, resources, and case studies. It also has an assessment test at the end to help you evidence your compliance.

This course is designed in line with the following policies:

  • The Food Safety Act 1990
  • The Food Hygiene (Amendment) Regulations 1990
  • The Food Labelling (Amendment) Regulations 1990
  • The Food Premises (Registration) Regulations 1991

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding the relevant procedures and policies you need in place to empower your staff to follow their legal duties.
  • Recognising the various types of allergens and how they can affect our health and wellbeing.
  • Identifying anaphylaxis and learning how to assist someone who is suffering from the medical emergency.
  • Recognising the signs and symptoms of food allergies with a focus on the immune system.
  • Understanding the difference between food allergies and food intolerances.

Course modules:

Module 1: Allergies and Intolerances

Module one explores the differences between food allergies and food intolerances, with a look at relevant statistics in the UK.

Module 2: Legislation and Food Labelling
