All staff, including supply staff, have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn. They should be aware of systems within their school or college which support safeguarding, understand their role in the early help process, be able to recognise signs of abuse and know how and who to escalate referrals to.
This essential CPD course provides you with the core content you need to understand your statutory safeguarding requirements as a member of supply staff.
Split into bite-sized modules, the training has been designed to provide maximum learning potential in the leanest, most cost-effective and most time-efficient manner. It has been produced in high-quality remote video CPD format which is accessible on any device, any time, anywhere.

Module 1: Context and your role
In module one you will learn what safeguarding is, why it is so important in schools and understand your role and responsibilities in the safeguarding process.
Module 2: Legislation and statutory guidance
This module will cover key legislation relating to safeguarding, exploring ‘Keeping children safe in education’, ‘Working together to safeguard children’ and ‘What to do if you’re worried a child is being abused’.
Module 3: Recognising safeguarding concerns
Module three explores the difference between safeguarding and child protection and looks at the four main categories of abuse, including the impact they can have on children and how to recognise common indicators.
Module 4: Recognising abuse
This module outlines additional forms of abuse children might experience and explores how to identify and understand the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences, domestic abuse, online harm and child criminal exploitation on children.
Module 5: Responding to problems and disclosures
Module five outlines how to respond to a disclosure and the importance of listening to the child and maintaining professionalism in managing preconception and judgements.
Module 6: Responding and recording safeguarding incidents
Module six explores your responsibilities when you have identified a potential safeguarding incident, including recording and reporting information to the right people in a timely fashion.
Module 7: Allegations against supply staff
Module seven explores allegations made against supply staff, including how they should be managed and the measures you can take to protect yourself from unfounded allegations.
Module 8: Staying safe online
Module eight offers practical guidance on how to stay safe online, protect your digital footprint and avoid reputational, professional of personal damage.
Module 9: Good practice in supply teaching
Module nine explores what a supply teacher needs to find out when they arrive at a school to keep children safe during their working day and tips to develop good practice.
