- Understanding diabetes, including the two types of diabetes, the associated symptoms and how it can be managed through medicine or lifestyle changes.
- Developing an awareness of the impact that diabetes can have on a person’s work and personal life including the need to create a safe work environment in which a person can administer their medication.
- Identifying complications that may arise and identifying what constitutes a diabetic emergency.
- Understanding the responsibilities of employers to support those who have diabetes at work.
- Understanding the practical applications of the 2010 Equality Act in particular reference to managing diabetes.
