This essential CPD course provides you with the core content you need to understand the types of diabetes, how it affects individuals and confidently offer help and support to those managing diabetes in your workplace.

Delivered by qualified emergency medical technician Samantha Kendall, the course has been divided into six modules with a knowledge assessment at the end to help you evidence your learning.

Learning outcomes

  • Understanding diabetes, including the two types of diabetes, the associated symptoms and how it can be managed through medicine or lifestyle changes.
  • Developing an awareness of the impact that diabetes can have on a person’s work and personal life including the need to create a safe work environment in which a person can administer their medication.
  • Identifying complications that may arise and identifying what constitutes a diabetic emergency.
  • Understanding the responsibilities of employers to support those who have diabetes at work.
  • Understanding the practical applications of the 2010 Equality Act in particular reference to managing diabetes.

Course Units

Introduction

Delivered by qualified emergency medical technician Samantha Kendall, the course has been divided into six modules with a knowledge assessment at the end to help you evidence your learning.

Module 1: What is diabetes and how does it affect people?

Module one will give an overview of the importance of diabetes awareness. It will discuss what diabetes is, the symptoms of it and how each type will affect individuals and the long and short-term complications associated with diabetes.
