All schools must comply with the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 which ensures staff have regular DSE assessments and places a duty of care on school leaders. It is essential that all staff have an awareness of display screen equipment regulations in order to ensure that they are able to recognise, follow and implement the correct DSE procedures. This is vital in order to minimise ill health to themselves and others whilst using DSE equipment at school.

Module 1: The Meaning of Display Screen Equipment

Module 1 will provide you with an overview of what display screen equipment is and what exactly it includes within its definition. It will also discuss what certain types of equipment DSE regulations specifically exclude.

Module 2: Health & Safety Legal Requirements that Apply to DSE

In module 2 you will learn about your legal obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992. You will learn about the responsibilities of both school leaders and staff and...

Module 3: Common Hazards and Risks from the Use of DSE

In Module 3 you will learn more about the health and safety risks resulting from using DSE. This includes an awareness of common issues such as repetitive strain injury, tendonitis, eye strain and neck pain as well as others.

Module 4: DSE Assessments

Module 4 will cover the most common DSE causes of ill health and the key indicators to consider during a DSE assessment. This will include issues around your chair, mouse, monitor, workstation and foot support.

Module 5: How to Set up a Common Workstation.

In Module 5, learners will be able to explain the correct procedures towards correctly setting up their workstation and ensuring they use best practice around each aspect of their display screen equipment.

Module 6: Posture & Wellbeing

In Module 6 you will learn about the best ways to maintain your wellbeing whilst using display screen equipment. This includes taking regular breaks, stretching and reporting any pain to ensure there are no long-term effects.
