About The Course

Certificate in Organising and Managing School Trips

About the Course

Duration: 77 minutes (approx.)

The overall responsibility for the health and safety of children on school trips rests with senior leaders. The school management team should ensure that all trips are well planned, appropriately risk-assessed and carefully managed in order to minimise the risk of any accidents or injuries. Schools must be satisfied that their teachers and staff are competent to lead or supervise a visit.

This essential CPD course provides you with the core content you need to ensure you understand your legal responsibilities in relation to school trips and can conduct sensible and proportionate risk assessments.

Split into bite-size modules, the training has been designed to provide maximum learning potential in the leanest, most cost effective and most time-efficient manner. It has been produced in high quality remote video CPD format which is accessible on any device, anytime, anywhere.

Delivered by The National College and qualified emergency medical technician Samantha Kendall, the course has been divided into five modules with a knowledge assessment at the end to help you evidence your learning.

Designed in line with the following policies:

  • Health and Safety on Educational Visits 2018
  • Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974

Learning outcomes

  • Understanding your roles and responsibilities as a school trip organiser or manager and what part you play in coordinating school trips.
  • Recognising the necessary safeguarding measures that should be in place when planning for a school trip and ensuring staff attending the trip have the required training.
  • Understanding how to conduct effective risks assessments before embarking on a school trip and making sure parental consent is obtained.
  • Identifying how to manage pupil behaviour on a school trip and the importance of ensuring clear and unobtrusive communication channels.
  • Recognising the different elements of organising and planning trips abroad and what that means for existing health and safety measures.

Module 2: Safeguarding, emergency and consent forms

Module two will explore what the necessary safeguarding arrangements are required as part of organising and managing a school trip, the need for first aid support and having the expertise to manage different types of incidents.

Module 3: Risk assessments

In module three you will learn about conducting in-depth risk assessments in order to effectively implement the necessary procedures to keep children safe during the trip and the importance of obtaining parental consent.

Module 4: Trip management
