Annual Certificate in Online Safety for SENDCOs (International Schools) (2022-23)

It is vital for school staff to have an understanding of online safety, for the sake of their pupils’ wellbeing and mental health. In the interest of the safeguarding of all children and young people, all staff who work with these groups must be able to identify their role and responsibilities in regards to online safety, as well as the risks posed to children and young people online.

Course Units

Introduction

This CPD certified course will help you to better understand online safety, why it is necessary in modern education settings and how to deliver on your responsibilities.

Module 1 – the need for online safety

Module 1 will discuss and answer the question of why schools need to consider and deliver online safety, as well as outlining common safety risks online.

Module 2 – delivering a whole-school community approach

Module 2 will look further into the roles and responsibilities of everyone who forms part of the whole-school community, as well as how to implement a whole-school community approach to online safety.

Module 3 – understanding your role

Module 3 will discuss how you can understand your roles and responsibilities a little more, what policies to refer to and general advice on reporting procedures.

Module 4 – what does online safety mean?

Module 4 will delve into what online safety actually is, what it means and what to consider around its implementation in schools.

Module 5 – protecting your online reputation

Module 5 will further educate you on the importance of protecting your online presence, maintaining professionalism at all times and how to behave online.

Module 6 – acceptable use policies (AUPs)

Module 6 will consider in more detail what acceptable use policies are, how to implement them, and what they contain.

Module 7 – recognising unsafe communication

Module 7 will explore unsafe communication, highlighting the signs that unsafe communication is taking place and how to safeguard against it.

Module 8 – managing online information

Module 8 will take a look at how to manage one’s online information, protecting it against aspiring thieves and the believability of other information found online.

Module 9 – effects to health, wellbeing and lifestyle

Module 9 will discuss the potential effect of online activity on health, wellbeing, and lifestyle, as well as how to help children and young people to avoid such effects.

Module 10 – your role as a SENCO

Module 10 will address your role as a SENCO in the context of online safety.
