About The Course

Annual Certificate in Safeguarding for Staff (2021-22)

Course Duration: 67 minutes (approx.)

All staff have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn. They should receive appropriate safeguarding and child protection training, and regular updates, in order to provide them with the relevant skills and knowledge to safeguard children effectively.

This Essential CPD course provides you with the core content you need to understand your statutory safeguarding requirements as a member of school staff.

Split into bite-sized modules, the training has been designed to provide maximum learning potential in the leanest, most cost-effective and most time-efficient manner. It has been produced in high-quality remote video CPD format which is accessible on any device, any time, anywhere.

Developed by Lorna Ponambalum, safeguarding expert and senior leadership education professional, the course is split into seven modules and encourages audience interaction to support and embed learning. There is a knowledge assessment at the end to help you evidence course completion.

  • Understanding how to respond to safeguarding concerns and recognising the seven golden rules of sharing information.
  • Understanding your statutory duties in relation safeguarding remote learners and maintaining online safety.

Modules

Module 1: Why is safeguarding children important?

In module 1 you will learn what safeguarding is, why it is so important in schools and understand how it works hand in hand with child protection.

Module 2: Safeguarding legislation and guidance

In module 2 you will learn about the key UK legislation and guidance that underpins safeguarding in schools and examine the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Module 3: Categories of child abuse and neglect

Module 3 will discuss the four main categories of abuse, what impact they can have on children and how to recognise the potential signs if a child is suffering.

Module 4: Understanding the toxic trio and other types of harm

Module 4 will provide you with an understanding of the ‘toxic trio’, explore other common forms of child abuse and consider the long term impact on mental health and wellbeing.

Module 5: Recognition, response and managing disclosures

In module 5 you will learn the key steps to take when responding to a disclosure, the importance of managing preconceptions and how to ensure you accurately record and report information.

Module 6: Information sharing and record keeping

Module 6 will explore the importance of record keeping and consider the seven golden rules of information sharing as defined by DfE safeguarding guidance.

Module 7: Remote safeguarding

In module 7 you will learn about your responsibilities towards safeguarding remote learners in line with DfE requirements and potential concerns associated with COVID-19.
