Subject leaders play a vital role in delivering curriculum expectations in line with the national curriculum and Ofsted requirements set out under the ‘quality of education’ judgement. They should ensure they have the necessary training and skills in order to assess and improve the quality of their provision, support staff development and drive up standards.

This essential CPD course will provide you with the core content you need to build your subject leadership skills, strengthening your ability to tackle challenging situations and inspiring your team to deliver successful outcomes.

Delivered by school leadership specialist and expert practitioner, Stephen Burnage, the course has been split into five bite-sized modules and has been designed to provide maximum learning potential in the leanest, most cost-effective and most time-efficient manner. It has been produced in high-quality remote video CPD format which is accessible on any device, anytime, anywhere.

Module 1: Leadership, management and the leadership transition

This module will explore what the role and responsibilities of a subject leader are and consider the importance of subject leadership with respect to Ofsted curriculum expectations.

Module 2: Departmental evaluation

Module two will discuss the importance of self-evaluation and ensuring that subject leads know their subject area/department well enough in order to monitor and deliver consistent progress.

Module 3: Evidence-based teaching and learning

This module will review research evidence on how to improve teaching and learning across the school by development and implementation of school-wide policies, models of teaching and pupil evaluation approaches.

Module 4: Supporting teacher development

Module four will focus on strengthening and investing in teachers in order to establish and maintain high standards of teaching practice, using evidence that helps to measure performance and impact.

Module 5: Planning for improvement

The final module will explore subject improvement planning and consider how to measure how well a department is performing; what the department’s key strengths and areas for development are; and how the department can achieve its aims via action plan...
