Our Creative Writing Competition is Now Open!

How can my school get involved?

Our creative writing competition is inviting all young people aged 7-18 to take on the challenge of writing a short story or poem about ‘online bullying’. The competition gives young people the opportunity to showcase their imagination and share their understanding about online safety in the digital age.

Who can enter?

The National Online Safety creative writing competition is split into two age categories:

Category 1 – Primary: 7-11 year olds

Category 2- Secondary: 11-18 year olds

How is the competition judged?

Our panel of online safety experts and story writers will judge the competition based on creativity, knowledge and relevance. The competition is open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK.

The Prize

1 x Primary School Winner

  • The winning story will have a promotional cover professionally illustrated and published in the National Online Safety newsletter, social media accounts and website
  • A Certified School Package for your school (worth over £1,000)
  • 1 x year subscription to First News for the school
  • 10 x copies of  ‘Oscar’s Adventures in the Online World’ storybook (worth £49.95) for your school library
  • A National Online Safety certificate

1 x Secondary School Winner

  • The winning story will have a promotional cover professionally illustrated and published in the National Online Safety newsletter, social media accounts and website
  • A Certified School Package for your school (worth over £1,000)
  • 1 x year subscription to First News for the school

Competition Rules

Only 1 entry per pupil

The story/poem must be up to 500 words

The topic must be online bullying

Entries must be submitted by 1st June 2018

Entries must be submitted by a teacher

How can we enter?

Please send all entries to kirsty@nationalonlinesafety.com by email with the subject heading “Online Safety Story” along with your school’s name. We can accept unlimited multiple entries per school, and all selected entries will be showcased on the National Online Safety website and feature in the NOS monthly newsletter.

Terms & Conditions

  • The promoter is National Online Safety Ltd whose registered office is at 80A Oswald Road, Scunthorpe, North Lincs, DN15 7PA
  • Employees of National Online Safety Ltd or their family members or anyone else connected in any way with the competition or helping to set up the competition shall not be permitted to enter the competition.
  • By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  • The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by English law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.
  • The promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the promoter.
  • The promoter’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Entering the competition

  • There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.
  • The route to entry for the competition and details of how to enter are via. Only one entry per school is allowed. The competition is open to primary schools in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland only.
  • Closing date for entry will be 31st July 2018 at 00:00 BST. After this date, no further entries to the competition will be permitted. The promoter reserves the right to amend the competition end date at any time.
  • Sending an email is no proof that we have received your entry. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
  • The promoter is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this competition.
  • The prize is what is stated on the competition page. If your school subsequently proves unsuitable for any reason, the prize will be offered to the runner-up. No cash equivalent to the prize will be offered. The prize is not transferable.

Choosing the winner

  • A shortlist of potential winners will be chosen by a panel of judges appointed by the Promoter and a final winner will be chosen as a result of a popular vote conducted via the Promoter’s website, social media sites as well as emails as measured and recorded by the Promoter’s software and verified by Promoter.
  • The winner will be notified by email or post within 28 days of the closing date. If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.
  • The promoter will notify the winner when and where the prize can be collected.

Competition submissions usage and permissions

  • The school retains copyright for all submissions to the competition (artwork, photo, film, story).
  • In consideration of entering this competition the school grants National Online Safety Ltd permission to use the submission for the promotion of the competition, National Online Safety Ltd campaign as well as National Online Safety Ltd work more generally, including but not restricted to online, social media, print, public displays, third party and media/press use.
  • The school is responsible for securing permission for the above uses from anyone featured (photographed, filmed or quoted) in any submission.
  • We would like to follow up with the winning school and create a case study using film and photography to capture their online safety messages 18. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Twitter or any other Social Network. You are providing your information to National Online Safety Ltd and not to any other party.
