Starting with an Introduction to GDPR for Schools, this GDPR Webinar Series has been developed by school data protection experts to explain in-depth what you need to do to ensure your school’s compliance. The training series continues to cover Data Security for Schools, Data Protection Officers, Subject Access Requests and Oversight & Compliance.

Our aim is to arm UK schools with all the information they need to become compliant with the new General Data Protection Regulations coming into effect in May 2018.

Webinar 1

On the 25th of May 2018 the Data Protection Act will be replaced with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) bringing about a whole new host of procedures and regulations – as a result the way you collect, manage and store data will have to change. This webinar introduces you to the new changes GDPR brings to your school’s data protection processes.

Webinar 2

The webinar looks at practical steps you can take to minimise the risk of data breaches, how you monitor and track your data security policies, and what to do if something goes wrong. Policies need to be thorough but practical, so that they protect your learning community whilst allowing staff to focus on improving learning outcomes.

Webinar 3

This webinar looks at the requirement for certain organisations to appoint a Data Protection Officer. This is a legally defined role with certain clearly defined responsibilities. This will include schools, as well as other organisations whose main business is processing personal data, or who process significant amounts of sensitive data.

Webinar 4

This webinar looks at data subjects right to ask organisations for a copy of any information they hold about them. This is known as a Subject Access Request (SAR). This right is not limited to current learners, parents or alumni, but includes staff members. Typically this could involve a member of staff seeking information during a dispute or disciplinary procedure.

Webinar 5

This webinar will cover key principles of good data governance – shaping your policies and procedures around your learning community; making data governance management-led; and designing a system that is proportionate and reasonable, so it is workable on a day-to-day basis. If done properly, reassuring your learners that you take care of their personal data will reflect well on your organisation and instil confidence in your brand.

Is your school ‘GDPR-ready’ with its data governance?

How well do you understand your data flows? Do you know where your information is kept, and who has access to it? Do you know when to keep information, when to share it, and how to share it securely? Could you easily track down and collate all the information you hold about a member of your school community? All of these questions, and many more besides, will soon be asked of you by the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
