About the Data Protection Officers for Schools webinar

Under the GDPR regulations, certain organisations will be required to appoint a Data Protection Officer. This is a legally defined role with certain clearly defined responsibilities. This will include schools, as well as other organisations whose main business is processing personal data, or who process significant amounts of sensitive data.

There are specific conditions that need to be fulfilled for DPOs. For example, they must be independent, have a direct channel to senior management or the Board, and cannot be disciplined or sanctioned for carrying out their duties. The role is a protected employment role – a new concept for UK institutions, although common in other European countries. The post holder will have a key role to play in protecting the school’s reputation in the event of a data breach or data protection issue. Managers will therefore need to give careful thought to how they will appoint to this role.

Legal and Ofsted obligations for your school to comply with GDPR

Under current legislation you already have a duty of care to ensure that school records, databases of student and staff information are kept safe and secure, and with the GDPR coming into effect in May, you’ll be required by law to comply with this new regulation.

Did you know that failure to comply with GDPR regulations can lead to fines of up to £500,000 by the ICO? Our GDPR for Schools webinar will help you to understand the changes coming into effect and how they could affect your school.
