About the Subject Access Requests for Schools webinar

The Data Protection Act gives individuals the right to ask organisations for a copy of any information they hold about them. This is known as a Subject Access Request (SAR). This right is not limited to current learners, parents or alumni, but includes staff members. Typically this could involve a member of staff seeking information during a dispute or disciplinary procedure.

The purpose of subject access is to enable individuals to find out what information is held about them, to check its accuracy and ensure it is up to date. Where information is incorrect, data subjects can request correction of the information or compensation if inaccuracies have caused them damage or distress.

The rights available to individuals under a Subject Access Request are being expanded under GDPR, and the timeframe for responding reduced. You will therefore need to nominate an individual within your organisation who is responsible for dealing with SARs. You should also ensure that the role is covered at times of absence or leave. This webinar will cover the basics of recognising, responding to and complying with SARs.

Legal and Ofsted obligations for your school to comply with GDPR

Under current legislation you already have a duty of care to ensure that school records, databases of student and staff information are kept safe and secure, and with the GDPR coming into effect in May, you’ll be required by law to comply with this new regulation.

Did you know that failure to comply with GDPR regulations can lead to fines of up to £500,000 by the ICO? Our GDPR for Schools webinar will help you to understand the changes coming into effect and how they could affect your school.
