Millbrook Primary School in Telford were searching for a means to further advance their eSafety provision in a whole school capacity.
Whilst evaluating their own eSafety strategy, they realised there was a need to expand their efforts in protecting and educating Millbrook’s pupils in an online space.
As a consequence, the Shropshire-based school purchased National Online Safety’s Certified School Programme, providing them with the ability to implement a more structured approach towards the subject of eSafety.
Improved eSafety Provision
Assessing Millbrook’s online safety needs, Jo Edwards, SENDCo & Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, Millbrook Primary School said: “I had spent the last term reviewing our online safety policy and staff training, and I recognised that we needed additional training and further curriculum development in this area.
“We purchased the Certified School Programme as we would like to become an accredited school.
“Training is delivered in a way that is clear and easy to understand and, as admin, it has been easy to manage other users.”
Adopting a new way of learning around eSafety can be somewhat of a daunting task at first, but Mrs Edwards highlighted how she was immediately reassured by the way in which our training and resources were delivered.
This extends to our weekly #WakeUpWednesday series, which she says provides a great way of relaying the importance of specific messages, whether that be on digital, gaming or other online platforms.
“I find the resources easy to access and use,” she stated.
“National Online Safety saves professionals working in school such a lot of time and effort. It’s often very difficult to know what the right advice to give parents is, and this package gives me confidence that we are delivering high quality training to staff and a high-quality curriculum to children.
“I think the ‘Wake-up Wednesday’ info is a great idea to inform people of important online safety info. All information is presented well, whether it is for children or adults. They are fantastic – very informative in a way that is accessible.”
A comprehensive service
From the outset, Mrs Edwards was delighted with the overview which was given to her by the National Online Safety team. She received expert advice about the individual resources and benefits which the school would attain from enrolling.
She explained: “The service has been excellent.
"Chris Skinner (Senior Online Safety Consultant at National Online Safety), who I initially spoke with, gave a good explanation of what was included. He was very friendly and informative, while also being extremely patient as he allowed me time to discuss purchasing the package with my head teacher.”
