About The Webinar

A Changing Landscape: Artificial Intelligence in Education | Secondary

For: Leaders, teachers and practitioners, governors and trustees

Aim: This webinar will explore how AI is changing the way that students learn and complete work, discussing the pros and cons to this shift. It will then detail what school leaders need to consider when ensuring that policies and staff training staff reflects the technology now available to students.

Rationale: The possible uses – and misuses – of the artificial intelligence content-generation programme ChatGPT have been the subject of numerous media reports recently. With several similar pieces of software in the pipeline, it is important for schools to be aware of how technology is evolving; how these innovations are currently impacting education and the way that students learn and complete work; and how this landscape will continue to develop in the near future.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding what AI is and how it is incorporated into programmes, platforms and software used by young people in education

  • Identifying some of the most popular examples of AI software and how it is being used by students

  • Recognising both the benefits and the drawbacks of AI technology, with reference to some of the most popular programmes

  • Considering the possible impact of AI software on schoolwork and, more generally, the future of education

  • Clarifying what school leaders can do immediately to ensure policies reflect current technology and staff are equipped with essential knowledge and skills
