About The Webinar

Implementing a Culture of Cyber Security | Secondary

This webinar will provide governors, headteachers and senior leaders with an understanding of and practical guidance on developing and implementing cyber security measures in order to keep staff, students and the wider school community systems and data safe and secure.

Cyber security attacks are becoming increasingly more sophisticated. Only as recently as May/June last year, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) issued an alert with respect to further ransomware attacks on the UK education sector by cyber criminals, following previous reporting that highlighted an increase in attacks during August/September 2020 and again in February 2021.

In this webinar, Gary Henderson, cyber security specialist and director of IT with over 20 years’ experience working in education, discusses what the current cyber security landscape looks like, how schools can protect themselves and how leaders should aim to build a whole-school culture of cyber security amongst all staff.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the current cyber threat landscape, direction of travel and some of the most common risks to school users and infrastructure.

  • Recognising schools’ legislative responsibilities and recommended guidance on implementing best practice cyber security provision.

  • Identifying the different ways that schools can employ preventative measures across key areas such as products, config, processes and documents.

  • Understanding the importance of awareness development over compliance-based training and exploring examples of common practice.

  • Recognising how to embed a culture of cyber security in school amongst all staff, recommendations for action and what to consider in order to move forward.
