This webinar will provide headteachers, subject leads, curriculum leads and all teaching staff with practical advice and guidance on delivering safe online lessons to children.
On the 22nd October, the ‘Coronavirus Act 2020 Provision of Remote Education (England) Temporary Continuity Direction’ came into effect. It places a legal requirement on schools to be able to provide access to remote education for any pupil, class, group or small number of pupils who need to self-isolate, or who must stay at home in the event of a local or national lockdown.
In this webinar, international safeguarding expert, Robin Watts, will discuss how schools can look to develop online lessons as part of their wider remote education provision. It will explore what safeguarding measures schools must have in place and how to ensure lessons are age-appropriate, set up correctly and delivered in a safe learning environment.
Understanding what schools’ responsibilities are in delivering remote education and how to integrate online lessons into their curriculum planning.
Recognising what safeguarding measures to consider when delivering online lessons and the importance of adhering to relevant policies.
Identifying the technology and systems which can facilitate the delivery of online lessons, how to correctly set them up and implement safety controls.
Understanding how to deliver online lessons which are age-appropriate, tailored to different group sizes and consider different children’s needs.
Recognising what to consider around location, personal data, behaviour and the importance of engaging parents and carers in the remote education process.
The webinar will discuss teaching online safety in nursery and early years settings and ways to safely introduce tech skills to the very young. It will explore how digital devices can help children to develop and how to engage parents to align activities at home with what is taught in the setting.
The webinar will examine online echo chambers, illustrating how ideas can take hold of individuals and create pathways to radicalisation. It will then discuss in detail what strategies schools can adopt to reduce this risk (such as encouraging critical thinking and a balanced digital diet).
