About The Webinar

Device and Online Use Policies: Ensure Compliance and Enhance Safeguarding | Nurseries

For: Nursery managers, governors and trustees

Aim: This webinar explores some of the challenges nurseries and early years settings face around online device use among their community. It will discuss what policies can include to ensure children are fully safeguarded, statutory requirements are met and adults understand their responsibilities.

Rationale: From tablets to watches to smart speakers, internet-enabled devices are growing more powerful, and their use is becoming ever more commonplace – even among the very young. Whether or not a nursery or early years setting incorporates technology into the curriculum and learning, it is essential that they have clear policies in place around device use for staff, parents and children, and are able to act effectively on any rules and policies set out.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the current challenges faced by nursery and early years settings in relation to devices and online technology

  • Knowing the statutory and non-statutory guidance that outlines the requirements of settings to ensure appropriate safeguarding

  • Recognising which areas should be included in a policy, and how these might incorporate the whole-setting community

  • Appreciating possible ways to effectively share the policy across the setting and ensure that it is understood and adhered to

  • Formulating plans for strategies to follow up on the policies, including how and when to review them to ensure they remain strong and relevant
