About The Webinar

'Digital Intimacies': How Schools Can Support Young People to Navigate Sexual Content Online

This webinar will provide school leaders, subject leads and teachers with practical advice and support on how they can have age-appropriate conversations with children around sexual content online.

From 1st September 2020, Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education will become mandatory for all schools. In an age of increasing digital connectivity, research in 2019 found that many young people experience a daily barrage of unsolicited sexual images on social media as soon as they sign up to platforms, so education around this topic is vital.

In this webinar, we’ve partnered with award-winning RSE charity, Sexplain, to deliver information and guidance on how schools and trusted adults can have healthy, sensitive and supportive conversations around teen digital sexual cultures, including online image sharing, sexting and pornography.

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognising how to approach the subject of online pornography with different ages and how to tailor and deliver messaging.

  • Understanding the salient issues facing young people on social media and the latest research in this area.

  • Recognising how a rights and ethics-based framework is helpful for supporting young people's online interactions.

  • Understanding the varied nature of young people's online practices and how they are producing, sharing, viewing and communicating in different ways online.

  • Understanding how students can be supported by a whole-school approach and improving their digital literacy.
