About The Webinar

How Schools Can Implement Digital Media Literacy into the Curriculum

This webinar will provide headteachers, curriculum leads and teaching staff with practical guidance and support on understanding what digital media literacy is, why it is important and how to embed it into the school environment.

On 10 August 2021 the DDCMS updated their ‘Online Media Literacy Strategy’, which sets out the government’s plan to coordinate media literacy education and empower users to make safe choices online. It’s essential that schools understand the importance of developing their own media literacy strategy to support children in identifying online risks, what impact their actions have on others and critically evaluating content online.

In this webinar Sarah Pavey, international digital and media literacy consultant, and Stéphane Goldstein, information and digital literacy expert, explore why digital media literacy is so important for children’s development at all ages and how it can be effectively embedded into the curriculum and classroom learning.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the importance of an online media literacy strategy for schools and practical strategies for incorporating digital media literacy into the curriculum.

  • Recognising how schools can plan, build and strengthen their digital media literacy strategy and reflect the current environment.

  • Identifying the key themes from the Online Media Literacy Strategy document and realising its importance in protecting children from harm and impact on society.

  • Understanding ways to incorporate digital media literacy into the ethos of the school, beginning with engaging and training staff.

  • Demonstrating how educators can incorporate digital media literacy into classroom teaching simply and effectively.
