Online Safety: Understanding your Statutory Duties and Effectively Supporting Parents & Carers During Lockdown

On the 14th April, the DfE released their Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance to help support parents and carers keep their children safe from different risks online.

It follows a continuous stream of DfE guidance released in response to COVID-19, particularly around safeguarding children whilst they are remote learning during what is an unprecedented time.

In this webinar, Senior Online Safety Consultant, Chris Skinner, discusses what schools need to know in relation to their statutory safeguarding requirements. He will also explore the supplementary changes around COVID-19 and how schools can support and guide their parents to ensure that children enjoy a safer and more enjoyable experience online.

Learning Outcomes

  • What the DfE guidance means for schools and recognising their statutory obligations under Keeping children safe in education

  • How the DfE ‘Coronavirus (COVID-19): safeguarding in schools, colleges and other providers’ supplements existing safeguarding guidance

  • How National Online Safety have prepared a comprehensive suite of resources to help support schools during the COVID-19 outbreak, mapped against statutory guidance

  • How schools can take advantage of our award-winning, beautifully designed parental resources to help advise and engage parents in online safety, including providing essential support and guidance through home learning

Excellent support and advice

As a school, we have used NOS for a year officially, but have always shared the weekly #WakeUpWednesday platform guides to support parents and staff in keeping children safe online. The training courses are comprehensive - not only are they up to date with current regulation, the information is presented and explained in such a way that you know how to implement change in school that best reflects guidance and legislation. The website is easy to navigate and it's straightforward to use when pushing courses out to staff members. The support that I have received from NOS, either by email or on the phone, has always been professional, useful and addressed in a timely manner. They have supported us brilliantly when we have had issues in school with apps that we are not familiar with, I truly believe that NOS is at the forefront of training and guiding schools through the whirlwind that online safety can be!
