About The Webinar

Understanding the New UKCIS Online Safety Audit Tool: Online Safety Requirements for ITTs and NQTs

Webinar Duration: 41 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide school leaders, online safety leads and mentors of trainee and newly qualified teachers (NQTs), with practical advice and support on ensuring trainee teachers (ITTs) and NQTs understand their role in keeping children safe online.

Online safety is a vital part of safeguarding children. Schools have a responsibility to cover online safety as part of the induction process for ITTs and NQTs. That is why the UKCIS recently published (10th August) their ‘Online Safety Audit Tool’ guidance which schools should use to provide ongoing support, development and monitoring of teacher’s understanding around online safety in schools.

In this webinar, international safeguarding expert and education consultant Robin Watts will provide information and guidance on what schools need to cover as part of the induction process, understanding the key themes and how to implement effective and continuous learning mechanisms to help safeguard children online.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to effectively use the UKCIS Online Safety Audit Tool to support, develop and monitor ITTs and NQTs knowledge and understanding of online safety.

  • Recognising the key statutory and non-statutory guidance that all ITTs and NQTs must be aware of in relation to safeguarding online.

  • Identifying what ITTs and NQTs should know in respect to curriculum requirements and implementing online safety in lesson planning.

  • Understanding how to ensure ITTs and NQTs know what their online reputation is and keeping within professional boundaries online.

  • Recognising the role that ITTs and NQTs have to play in supporting and engaging parents and carers as part of a whole school approach to online safety.
