About The Webinar

Creatively Embedding Online Safety into Curriculum Planning | Secondary

This webinar will provide headteachers, online safety leads, curriculum leads and all teaching staff with practical guidance and advice on planning and creatively delivering online safety education as part of their wider curriculum planning for the 2021/22 academic year.

Both the proposed Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) 2021 statutory guidance and the Relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education (RSHE) curriculum guidance address the importance of teaching online safety as part of a broad and balanced curriculum. Schools should ensure online safety is taught across every subject and teachers are given the appropriate support.

In this webinar, practising e-safety lead and current head of IT and computing, John Insley discusses how to embed online safety learning in schools through an innovative and imaginative approach to curriculum planning across all subjects, focusing on key areas and engaging the whole-school community.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to plan, develop and implement an age-appropriate online safety curriculum in schools in line with DfE guidance.

  • Identifying how online safety can be knitted within all subjects across the curriculum and recognising creative ways to educate children on staying safe online.

  • Recognising different methods of practical delivery and engaging learners in online safety at different age groups.

  • Understanding how to engage the whole school in online safety and embedding a culture of online safety teaching and learning.

  • Recognising curriculum requirements under the DfE RSHE guidance and ensuring schools meet their statutory duties.
