International Webinar: Understanding Online Safety Laws in the UAE

Webinar Duration: 49 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, school leaders and all teaching staff in the UAE with practical guidance and advice on understanding the laws around online activity in the region and how to support learning in the classroom.

Cyber safety and digital security are serious issues in the UAE. It’s important for school staff who work in the region to be aware of the local laws and ensure that they raise awareness among students about online threats and challenges, promoting safe and constructive use of the internet in order to avoid misconceptions and potentially face serious consequences.

In this webinar Philippa Wraithmell, award-winning global digital transformation specialist who is currently leading digital strategies in schools across the UK and the UAE, will discuss the current laws in the region, why it’s important to understand them and ideas on how to deliver education and learning to students in different age groups.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the laws around photography and videos in the UAE, including cybercrime, hate speech and publishing content.

  • Recognising how the UAE interpret cyberbullying and defamation, and the laws under which defamation is considered a criminal offence.
