This webinar will focus on the VPN technology that children typically use to get around filtering controls. We’ll explain how VPNs tunnel through your protection and the practical steps that you can take to detect and block usage. We’ll also look into the less common methods for bypassing school protection, from the use of proxy websites to remote accessing a home computer. Again, we’ll explain how all staff can detect and block such access.
This webinar will also look beyond the harmful content that VPNs give access to and look at the wider security risks, including the potential for hackers to take control of a computer or use your school’s internet connection for malicious purposes.
Harmful content: From pornographic material and playing unsuitable games to unsupervised online chat, we explain how bypassing filters also inhibits your ability to safeguard pupils.
How VPNs work: An overview of the technology and how VPNs allow web filters to be bypassed. Plus, we explain how to detect and block VPN usage.
Other techniques: How proxy servers and remote control software can also be used to bypass web filtering, and how you can spot and block these threats.
Beyond content: We look at how using some VPN software also opens your school network up to hackers engaged in illegal activity.
BYOD: We look at the growing threat of children using their own devices on school premises and how you can use your legal right to safeguard pupils to control how smartphones, tablets and laptops can be used while at school.
With COVID-19 making Christmas 2020 a little trickier than usual, we've once again teamed up with Sam and Dan from Musicalternative to produce a song to raise everyone's spirits. Bid a cheery farewell to a crazy year and get ready to welcome 2021, with the "We Get Locked Down" Christmas song.
Whilst the kids of yesteryear would only really be interested in games consoles or music gear, our new world of user-friendly tech means that children are interacting with a huge range of devices on a daily basis.
