About The Webinar

Radical Right: The Use of Signs, Symbols and Platforms Online | Primary

This webinar will provide headteachers, school leaders and teaching staff with an understanding of the signs, symbols and platforms that the radical right use online, as well as practical guidance on what action teachers and parents can take to prevent exposure to radical views.

The Prevent Duty states that those in leadership positions should ensure that they and their staff understand the risks of radicalisation and build the capabilities to deal with it. All school staff have a responsibility to protect children from harm which includes their exposure to extreme views online and ability to think critically about the content they see.

In this webinar, The Centre for Analysis of the Radical Right (CARR), the leading information aggregator and knowledge repository on the radical right, past and present, explore the strategies used by the radical right to manipulate the minds of children and young people, and practical techniques to immunise against hate.

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognising what signs, symbols and tropes are used by the radical right online and how this connects with harmful ideologies.

  • Identifying the range of online platforms that the radical right exploit when recruiting and radicalising children and young people.

  • Understanding how the radical right use culture to recruit and radicalise children and young people.

  • Recognising how to equip children and young people with the critical thinking skills required to guard against exposure to the radical right online.

  • Understanding how to recognise and prevent forms of engagement with the radical right and resist persuasion and grooming by extremists.
