On 27th March, the DfE released their interim safeguarding guidance for all schools, colleges, maintained nurseries and pupil referral units in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
The guidance aims to support and maintain effective safeguarding practice in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE). It states that it is more important than ever that schools and colleges provide a safe environment, including online. This is especially important given that many children are now learning away from school.
In this webinar, Christina Leath, an experienced Head of Safeguarding and subject matter expert, will explore key points from the guidance and discuss what this means for DSLs, teachers and parents and carers.
For DSLs
You will understand how education settings should look to adapt existing safeguarding policies in line with KCSiE around online safety and lead role that you should take. You will understand key policy requirements, identify effective implementation methods and the importance of parental communication.
For Teachers
You will understand what role you can take to ensure schools are implementing a whole school approach to online safety and your responsibilities in ensuring clear reporting processes are in place. You will also learn what you should consider when engaging children in online teaching and planning safe online lessons, including mental wellbeing.
For Parents and Carers
You will understand how to ensure children are being kept safe online whilst at remote learning and guidance around recognising online risks and how to report them. You will also receive advice on how and to whom you should report any safeguarding concerns and where you can receive further support.
