Software and Content Licensing
What is software and content licensing?
A license agreement is made between the owner of a copyright, patent, brand, or trademark and someone who wants to use it. The license grants permission to the licensee and includes a list of what they can and can't do with the product. The licensee must abide by these guidelines or face a potential penalty. The licensing agreement usually includes a financial arrangement.
Software licensing is a legal contract that protects software creators’ rights and stops users from misusing the product. Whilst some software developers donate their software to the public domain for people to use for free (known as Open Source), most software must be purchased.
