About The Webinar

Modelling Behaviours to Support Healthy Development with Technology

This webinar will provide early years managers, leaders, practitioners and nursery assistants with an understanding of and practical guidance on developing model behaviours in order to influence children’s relationship and engagement with technology.

Young children are highly impressionable and will often model their own behaviour, attitude and way they act based on what they see other trusted adults do. Therefore, it’s hugely important that staff in early years settings set a leading example, particularly for children at such a young age, to ensure healthy habits are implemented as early as possible.

In this webinar, Cayley Jorgenson, mental health practitioner, researcher, public speaker and director of FaceUp South Africa, will explore how children acquire information from those around them, what steps settings can take to develop model behaviour and the importance of developing a whole-setting approach to healthy digital device use.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how children in early settings are currently interacting with the online world and the reality behind device usage and screen time

  • Recognising the relationship between early childhood development and how it can be impacted by technology use and the online world

  • Identifying ways to model appropriate screen time, what is considered too much and what the advantages and disadvantages of online consumption are for children this young

  • Realising what adult behaviours can impact children’s online behaviours and best practice measures to consider when setting an example for them to follow

  • Recognising what healthy digital use for children in early years looks like, how to teach it and realising the importance of engaging parents and carers for maximum impact
