About The Webinar

The Metaverse: Understanding How it Works and Preparing Children for the Future of Technology

Webinar Duration: 40 minutes (approx.)
This webinar will provide governors, senior leaders, safeguarding leads and teachers with an understanding of and insight into the metaverse and how the actions we take now can potentially shape the future of the digital world for our children.

The metaverse is a term which is commonly used but not always widely understood. It is considered to be the next evolution of the internet but, as this digital world continues to develop, questions still remain around how safe it will be for children, what impact it will have on their lives and how it may affect their behaviour.

In this webinar, Nina Jane Patel, co-founder and director of Metaverse Research for Kabuni, explains what the metaverse is, how children and young people are already engaging with it and what risks it may bring as it continues to become a greater part of our lives.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the current state of the metaverse, how it forms an evolutionary part of the internet and how it is likely to develop moving forward

  • Recognising how the metaverse is currently being used and in particular, how children and young people are engaging with it in different ways

  • Realising how the metaverse is different to what we currently interact with online and how it is projected to evolve in the very near future

  • Understanding the risks presented by interactions in the metaverse and the associated implications for data, privacy and children’s safety

  • Building a better awareness of the use for the metaverse as part of digital citizenship, as well as how to be involved in shaping its future development
