What is a TOR browser?
The Onion Router or ‘TOR’ browser anonymises web traffic using a network that makes it easy to protect an individual’s identity online.
It works by adding multiple layers of encryption onto website traffic as it bounces around the network. It then slowly peels away those layers, so by the time the internet activity has reached the website intended, it cannot be identified.
Browsing the internet using TOR is slower due to the internet route being used. Some major web services block TOR browsers due to their ability to anonymise and, although they’re not illegal, they are blocked in some countries exactly for this reason.
